Three "Tiwa" titles

lundi 28 février 2011, par P. Ramirez

What is a Tiwa title ? Tiwa-speaking people consider a number of "titles" or surnames—approximately 20—to be typically "Tiwa". This means that a person bearing one of these names will be expected to speak Tiwa, display a number of models of cultural behaviour and abilities considered to be Tiwa, and declare himself a Tiwa. This generally proves to be the case, yet it cannot be considered the general rule given the actual complexity of correspondences (or non-correspondence) between surnames, descent groups and cultural features.
